Lake Providence is a town in and the parish seat of East Carroll Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 5,104 at the 2010 census, down from 5,719 in 2000. Providence is part of the Monroe Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lake Providence was founded in 1852 as Providentia by Dr. Charles Byron Provine, a physician originally from South Carolina. TheSTEAM Ferry was used to cross the Mississippi River from Arkansas, Arkansas, to Lake Providence from 1859 to 1876. The Lake Providence Port was developed in 1859, and the first Lake Providence Wharf was built in 1860. A second lake was created in 1874.
