Kendal is a historic market town in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria, in North West England. Kendal is the third largest settlement in Cumbria, behind Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness, and has a population of approximately 28,586. The town is situated on the River Kent, approximately three miles (5 km) from its confluence with Windermere.
