Kampong Cham is a province located in the central area of Cambodia. The province is adjoining to Tbong Khmum province and surrounded by other provinces such as Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Speu, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, and Prey Veng. Kampong Cham is about 113 kilometers from Phnom Penh City. The province is divided into 12 districts, 85 communes, and 944 villages. The total population of Kampong Cham as of 2019 is 1,682,526.
The main attraction in Kampong Cham is the Wat Hanchey Buddhist temple, built in the 8th century. The temple is located on a hill in the village of Wat Prey Nup, six kilometers from the town of Kampong Cham. Visitors can get a panoramic view of the Mekong River and the Cambodian countryside from the top of the temple.
Other attractions in Kampong Cham include the Chamkar Mon Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to lasting populations of rare and endangered wildlife; the Boeng Tompun Floating Village, where people live on stilt houses and earn a living from fishing; and Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei, two small hills located in the center of Kampong Cham town that offer beautiful views of the Mekong River and the surrounding countryside.
