Happy Friday – fitting in my workouts and the Biggest Loser
| January 11, 2013 | Posted by Carrie under balance, Best Body Bootcamp, Biggest Loser, Fitness Friday |
Fridays hold a new meaning to me… it’s the first day of my weekend! My mornings get to start differently with more coffee/computer time. That means more time here, less rushing to get out of the house early, a morning of volunteering at my son’s school and a jam packed day of errands.
A few notes from the week – I got in a workout every day this week! Tuesday I went for a walk on my lunch hour. Seriously, look at the view from my walk. Who wouldn’t be motivated to enjoy this scenery?
If you look back on the pictures I usually take from my beach runs, this is the view looking back that direction.
lots of people stopping to enjoy the view
Monday and Wednesday nights, I got in my strength workout for Best Body Bootcamp. Monday’s workout included cardio intervals which I got done on my stationary bike. On Wednesday I also went for a run/walk while at Dude’s basketball practice. Last night I hit up the bike for a 25 minute ride.
I’ve been able to make super healthy food choices so far this week too. Packing my lunch and food for the day is the key.
I’m so happy that Biggest Loser started! I’m loving this season already. I love the kids. So far I think they’re doing a wonderful job incorporating the kids in a positive way. And the kids themselves – have you ever seen such amazingly well-spoken and poised kids? They did a great job choosing kids who have the potential to inspire a nation.
One of most motivating parts of the Biggest Loser season is the contestants meet with Dr. H. It’s so eye opening to see what an unhealthy lifestyle can do to your body.
Dr. H’s question to the one contestant of “if you had Lymphoma, would you take 2 hours out of your day for chemotherapy?” Of course he said yes. Then Dr. H followed up with the statement that the affects of his weight were like those of cancer. And he had the power to change it.
The other statement that stuck with me was when he told the one female contestant that her diabetes was so out of control that medication would probably not help.
I love the moments on the show when the contestants realize that they can do a hard workout. That they can push themselves past what they thought they could do. That smile is priceless. That smile is why I workout . I love that smile.
When was the last time you had that smile on your face for doing something you didn’t think was possible?
Happy Fitness Friday too! Go visit Jill’s blog hop.

I think I missed that you have gone back to work!
I am enjoying the fresh outlook on the new season of BL too but really didn’care for the way they made Jillian come across so hard with that woman who chose to go home the first week. It looked so harsh.

Yes, I went back to work. So far so good. I know about Jillian. You could just see the fear in the eyes of her team. I’ve also been listening to her podcasts and she talks about it and how hard Bob is on his team and yet that doesn’t come across in the show. I liked that they showed her encouraging side with the talks with her team and she held true to what she promised them.
Beautiful pictures! In nice weather I used to walk every afternoon with a coworker, such a good way to get energy back and not mindlessly snack at my desk!

Yes! I find I have such a good amount of energy in the afternoon if I exercise at lunch.
Yay for making it through your first week of work! I’m not actually watching Biggest Loser at all this season… between marathon training, teaching spin and INN school, my evenings have been packed… the only thing we are consistently catching are Parenthood reruns and Downton Abby on Sundays.

There are only so many hours in the day. I don’t watch a lot of tv, but now I’m hearing so much about Downton Abby (that I thought was Downtown Abby for the longest time) that I’m thinking about checking it out.
I LOVE the Biggest Loser! It’s so motivating! I had that smile this morning! I was working out my arms for the first time with my trainer (and learning I had done it all wrong in the past on my own) and it was SO hard but when I finished, I was shaking my jelly arms and smiling! I loved feeling like I was making changes right there!
Have a great day!
(PS I’m having a giveaway on my blog perfect for people who work out a lot and love natural, energy rich products, so you should check it out! http://www.treatswithatwist.com/2013/01/fabulously-fit-friday-and-a-giveaway-1112013.html )

Such a great feeling! Thanks for sharing your giveaway, I’m going to go check it out.
I’ve been loving Loser too! I haven’t watched in a few seasons but got back on the bandwagon since Jillian is back.
Great job on the workouts this week!

Thanks Carli. I’m listening to Jillian’s podcasts and she was talking about how they have some new producers on the show and I like the changes.
I’ve never actually seen this show! I’m against it in theory so I’ve never given it a chance. Maybe I should get over my judgments and try it! Your beach pictures are gorgeous!

There are many things about the show that I don’t like, but it inspires enough people and I find it motivating myself when I’m having trouble with my healthy choices, so it’s not all bad.
Woohoo on getting your workouts in! That is awesome for your first full week back at work! I had to skim through the rest of your post because TBL is still on my DVR but I was smiling on the inside when I was able to do all of the strength moves in Level Three of Jillian’s 30 Day Shred! (On the outside I was still cursing!)

I don’t think I gave any spoilers… but I hope you get to watch it soon. It’s got a little different feel to it and Dolvett has the whitest teeth I’ve ever seen.
This is the first season I’m watching BL! After starting BH’s Inside Out Method workouts I was a little more curious about the show. Now I see why you like it so much. Love it! I watch it with my husband and daughter which makes it even better

I watch it with my daughter too. I think they’re doing a great job with the kids so far. Especially with their nutrition, it seems like they aren’t making a huge deal about it, just trying to help the kids make small changes and be more active. It seems like such sound advice. Which is good because their tactics with the adults are usually very extreme and would be so totally unhealthy for kids. Glad you like the show.
I have never watched Biggest Loser, but I might want to start since people are talking about it so much.
If I had that view from my work I might never be at my desk! I want to run around that!

I get to dress pretty casually for work, but I’m debating how close to workout attire I can get so that I can actually run at lunch. Right now I’m just wearing jeans and going for walks. It is a beautiful place.
