WIAW – A Little Indulgent Today
|April 18, 2012||Posted by Carrie under attitude about food, food, Uncategorized, What I Ate Wednesday|
It’s What I Ate Wednesday! Hosted by the fabulous Jen at Peas and Crayons! The theme for the month is to serve up an extra cup of veggies. The picture above is a collage of the yummy sweet potato soup I made the other day. Super simple – sweet potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, garlic with some chicken broth and seasonings (pumpkin pie spice, curry and cayenne). Then blend it all up. So yummy and makes a ton. Although it’s so good, I may not even have enough for a freezer stash.
But, I wanted to also share the not typical WIAW post today too. There’s really nothing even remotely healthy about the food I’m going to talk about for the rest of this post. But, it was a new experience and not one that’s going to get repeated very frequently. There should be 10% of your diet that is for indulgences, right? My apologies for breaking the WIAW rules today, but I personally like WIAW to share yummy eats from my week (and to read other WIAW blogs for yummy food ideas). So, if you’re looking for healthy eats – this isn’t the place today.
Last Saturday night, MMT went out for Date Night with another couple. We went to a burger place in Huntington Beach called Slater’s 50/50. None of us had ever been there. MMT is a burger fan, this was his kind of restaurant.
The restaurant was packed. We had to wait an hour for a table. We enjoyed a drink in the bar and started to salivate over the yummy burgers we were seeing.
All these pictures are courtesy of Yelp. Go check out the reviews of the restaurant here (there are 3 locations in So Cal). I restrained from taking my own pictures, although I really wanted to.
The 50/50 in the name of the restaurant comes from their signature burger patty of half ground beef, half bacon. Yum! That’s what I had. They have a huge amount of toppings and you can design your own burger or get one of the pre-designed ones. I had a make-your-own with the 50/50 patty, grilled onions and asparagus (ok, so there is a tiny bit of healthy on that burger). I couldn’t resist trying asparagus on a burger. It was pretty good.
Here are some pictures of some of the wild creations on the menu. First is the Peanut Butter Jeallousy (yes, PB&J on a burger)
I’m not sure it looks so good. As much as I love PB, I just don’t think it belongs on a burger.
Then there was the Vampire Dip. We shared this and some of it made its way onto my burger. So good! So garlicy! The pita chips served with the dip were fantastic.
Below is the Slater’s 50/50 Burger. I don’t remember what was on it, I think there was egg and guacamole. This is was MMT ate. I tasted it but thought my creation was better.
I saw this creation being served to the table next to us. Pancakes? Chicken? Holy cow!
And to round out the dinner, our table shared an order of the Bacon Brownie. Many different opinions around the table on this one – personally, I thought the brownie was much more like a cake and not my favorite part. There were bacon pieces sprinkled on top and MMT didn’t like the texture of the bacon in the dessert. My favorite part was the bacon with the vanilla ice cream. YUM!!
Ok, so now your arteries are clogging up by just reading my blog today. At least the yummy soup helped my body recover from this indulgent meal I was actually able to get in my 8 mile run the morning after this big burger meal. Lots of water made up for all the bacon
What’s your favorite indulgent dinner? Would you want to try any of these wild burgers? Any soup recipes to share?
