What I Ate Wednesday – WIAW #17
| July 17, 2012 | Posted by Carrie under food, What I Ate Wednesday |
After 10 days of vacation, most of which involved meals that I didn’t plan, I decided it was time for a little buckling down in terms of paying attention to the food that I’m eating. The mindless snacking and 2nd helpings at dinner are taking their toll on the way my pants are fitting.
A change of pace from my typical What I Ate Wednesday post where I usually just share interesting eats from the week. This week, I actually photographed all my food from yesterday.
not pictured – 3 cups of coffee (w/ skim milk) (and no, not all at once) and two mini plums.
(Aren’t you glad I labelled the apple? In case you didn’t know that’s what it was?)
That Nature Box snack is from my July box. It’s called Tomato Crunchies – basically almond slices with a tomato seasoned coating. That was my morning snack before going to the gym super early with my friend.
The Chobani and Cheerios is my new favorite afternoon snack. It’s really random (as are many things that I find myself eating). But, it’s really filling and 1/2 cup yogurt and 3/4 cup cereal feel like a huge serving for a snack. I’ve been buying the plain fat-free Chobani, but it really doesn’t work well with all cereal flavors. I think I need to load up on the vanilla flavored too.
In case you’re wondering – my food was just about 1700 calories for the day – 22% protein, 32% fat, 46% carbs. I think the only added sugar was in the cereal. Some of the numbers are rounded – I’m working on the not-being-obsessive thing.
I know that the WIAW theme for July is food and fitness. So, let me just tie this all together by saying that my almond snack was actually perfect before my morning workout today
On a final note – please take a moment to read my post from yesterday about CA Prop 37 – CA Right To Know Initiative to require food manufacturers to label GMO foods.
Then, hop on over to Jen at Peas and Crayons for some inspiring eats. Thanks Jen for hosting.

I’m loving tempeh right now. Perfect for summer dishes!
Tomato crunchies sounds good! I love Nature Box. Such a great idea!

I didn’t realize that I had bought bacon tempeh, but it turned out great.
Thanks for sharing what you are eating! I too have to buckle down sometimes when I’ve found myself grazing on foods I don’t need, or coming back from a vacation. Have a great Wednesday!

Thanks for the support – sometimes I hesitate before posting more a of a ‘food log’ as that seems to get a little controversial, but there are times where food logging is really helpful to me.
Every time I see a tempeh meal I remember that I’ve been wanting to try it. I’ll be on vacation in just over a week. We’ll see how the eating goes

Have a wonderful vacation. It’s not always so hard to keep a healthy focus on meals on vacation, you can do it!
I love all your labels! Good healthy eating. Those tomato-flavored almonds sound really good.

That all looks AWESOME! What is tempuh bacon?? Love love live sweet potatoe fries, oatmeal and avacado!
The tempeh bacon is basically tempeh strips that have a maple/smokey seasoning. I guess it’s supposed to be a bacon substitute. Tempeh is a soy based meat alternative.
Yum, looks good! I think I like the Chobani the best of all the yogurts. I also like Cheerios, but have never eaten them together!
For some reason, I have a lot of cereal in my house and it’s a good way for me to feel the mental satisfaction of eating cereal as a snack. I prefer my cereal with Almond Breeze, but can never seem to keep it fresh.
Now that my half ironman training is over, I really, really need to start focusing on food again. I don’t think I can contiue to eat 2500 calories a day!

I really wish I could get tempeh bacon here. : ( I discover the organic food co-op in town a few months ago, and it completely changed our culinary lives! I am behind you on labeling requirements for GMOs nationwide, since I don’t live in CA. Maybe if it goes in CA, there is hope for the rest of the country?

The ‘people in the know’ seem to be saying that if the measure passes in California then more states will follow suit. Thanks for visiting.
Chobani n Cheerios -Brilliant!
Dulce de Leche Cheerios
It helps me feel like I’m getting my cereal fix while still keeping things in moderation.
I like Fiber One mixed into plain yogurt.

I’ve been adding a little vanilla extract to my plain yogurt. I’m torn cuz I like keeping the plain around in case I need it in a recipe, but I really don’t like the flavor of plain.
