This weekend was a little busy – in a good way. Got in some fun family stuff and a few workouts. I’ve got nothing to complain about.
Friday night, Dude (my 9 yr. old) was in his school show. His teacher and her grown son (who is a theater person) put together a really great show. It was an 80′s Music Show. Dude had a solo part in Karma Chameleon. It was adorable. The other numbers were equally fun. I loved the costumes… especially the girls – I think I may have owned many of the outfits they wore. Think big hair bows, big hair, neon colors… all that awesomeness. I wish you could see the neon color of Dude’s shoes a little better. I was quite proud of my shopping efforts on this one.
Here’s the lineup from the show (I know you’ll be singing these in your head all day): Karma Chameleon, Material Girl, Wake Me Up (Before You Go-Go), Manic Monday, Somewhere Out There, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Uptown Girl, Let’s Hear it For the Boy, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now. I may have sang along with every single song (and totally embarrassed my daughter in doing so).
Saturday started out with a run. I was supposed to meet up with my friend K to run, but I got an early morning text that she had a sick kid and I was left to run alone. Bummer. I was really looking forward to having company. I set out alone and actually had a great run. Not quite a unicorns singing type run, but it was a really nice outing of 4 miles. Pretty good considering a week ago I could barely get my butt out of bed for days. So, I’ll take it.
Then I went home to work in the garden. I finished getting the weeds out and starting working on digging down a little bit so that I can take Caroline’s advice and line it all with rocks before I start planting. Well, after 45 minutes of digging through thick mud, I was done. And, my trash can was full. So, I called it a good strength workout and put the shovel away.
Saturday afternoon was Dude’s last soccer clinic of the season and then we went to watch his friends’ playoff baseball games. That outing ended a little prematurely as Dude was the target of a foul ball and not too happy about it.
MMT started his summer softball league this weekend with a double header, so the kids and I were home. I decided to use up the buttermilk that’s been in my fridge for a while and be a cool mom and make pancakes for dinner on a Saturday night. Aren’t you jealous of how exciting we are?
Sunday morning I got up early (well, I guess it was sleeping in to get up at 6 instead of my usual 5:30) and went to the gym with a different friend. I don’t like to run on consecutive days, but she wanted to do the treadmill, so I decided to do some major incline work. Two miles at a 7 incline was a pretty good workout. Then I did a decent strength routine including using a resistance band and doing those side step things across the gym. Man, those are killer.
The final fun of the weekend was my friend’s little boy’s 2nd birthday party. I’ve written about this little guy a few times. Here and Here. I like to call him Little Nephew. I was in the delivery room with my friend when he was born at 25 weeks gestation. His life to this point has had its ups and (major) downs and each day is truly a blessing with him. It was awesome to celebrate his birthday! Besides – I got my gang to go to the park and play together for a little while. That’s a huge accomplishment.
Thanks for reading through such a long post on a Monday. I hope everyone had a great weekend. This is my kids last full week of school, and my first week in a while of being able to get in a good week of meal planning and working out. That’s the goal for the week.
Ever been in the delivery room for a birth that wasn’t your own? Isn’t it amazing? I’d love to hear stories.
