It was a busy weekend here. A jam packed weekend recap coming up.
Friday night was Dancing Girl’s audition for her Dance Competition Team for next year. It was a nerve wracking and exciting day. But, it all ended well and she’s officially a part of the senior team for next year. Good news is that it keeps our carpool intact and it makes our crazy Thursday evening drives a teeny tiny bit easier.
Saturday morning, MMT and I got up early and went for a bike ride. We took a route to the beach and wound up getting in 6.5 miles. While we were at the beach, we were treated to a show by a few dolphins playing in the waves. Love that.
Later in the morning, Dancing Girl and I went to the street fair near her dance studio as the Company Team was doing a little street performance. They did great and had a lot of fun.
She stayed at the street fair with friends and I came home to change and go play a softball game. I stink at softball. But, our temple has a team that plays a summer league and MMT is part of the team. They were short female players, so I volunteered to help.
I didn’t do all that bad. I played catcher, so not a lot of pressure there. I only batted twice. The first time I hit a dribbler to the 3rd baseman. The 2nd time up, I hit a great shot over the 2nd baseman’s head. But, their shortstop was like 6’10″ (or something) and snagged the ball. Bummer.
Anyway, we lost the game, but it was fun. Dude had a good time picking bugs or digging holes or something while we played.
Dancing Girl ended up spending pretty much the rest of the weekend with her friends. On and off and switching houses of course, ending the weekend with the whole gang at our house, but it was a good time.
Sunday morning started early with a long run for me. I took the same route to the beach on foot that we had ridden on Saturday. I tacked on some mileage at some point to make my run 7 miles. It was great. I talked last week about how awful my 6 mile run was and this one was so much better. I even made some stops to take pictures and that didn’t hurt things too much. I did bring along some fuel – a few Cliff Blocks and some Nuun at mile 4 was perfect.
The same street fair mentioned above – early Sunday morning – very quiet.
Since 7 miles took me 1:23:46, I think the fuel may have made the difference. Maybe I could have done without the Cliff Blocks, but it is a long time to run.
Some nerdiness from the run.
Wow, that first mile was slow. I knew I was going slow, but it was weird, that’s just as fast as I could make my legs go. I guess I settled in to a good, but uneven pace eventually.
After getting home and having some pancakes, MMT and I went out for a Date Day. We went to the movies and saw “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”. We went thinking it was Steve Carell and we’d get to laugh. Uh, wrong. However, I really really liked it. I’ll try not to give it away, but let’s just say that the message I took away was to find the happiness in what you have. It’s family and love that matter, all the rest of it doesn’t. Bring tissues.
We had a yummy lunch and then came home to relax for the afternoon.
This week should be fun… MMT is officially on vacation until August. Family stuff coming up. And, I’m running a 10K on Saturday. I’m pretty excited about that. Although my knee is being a little weird.
Did you all have a good weekend? Did anyone else see “Seeking a Friend…?”
Glad you had a great run:) I want to see that movie. Don’t you hate it when you expect to get some laughs and they don’t happen? Sounds like it is worth seeing though. hikermom recently posted..Welcome to Summer Virtual Run and Puppy Love
Glad you had such a good weekend, Carrie! Great job on the bike and the run… look at that last mile! That’s exactly the way long runs should be done… start out as slowly as you can, and then you’re still feeling good at the end. Thank you for the feedback on the speed. I really wanted to hit a specific average pace – I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not, but I guess if I have something left in the tank, it’s ok. Sometimes I think I do this all wrong.
I played catcher for a bit years ago, I believe they put me there because I was a big menacing presence that would scare off anyone tempted to come home. It was fun, but my fave was 3rd base. Nothing more awakening than rying to stop a ball screaming at at your face at 1,386 miles per second.
Movie weekend for me and one of our sons, Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter. I put up a brief blog post on it this past Saturday. No tissues were needed for that one, well, not for those of us pulling for Abe to win the day Patrick recently posted..Ever Tried A Carrot?
Great run, Carrie…. sometimes the first mile is slower… takes the legs a while to get warmed up and primed!
I love CLIF Shot Bloks. They are easy to use, tasty and provide just the right blast of energy, I think. And you can chew while running, no need to stop!
Sounds like you all had a great weekend. I love running and biking on the waterfront. Nice! Elle recently posted..Saturday Stuff
wow!! it really was a jam packed weekend for you all! i am the same way on most of my runs where it feels like that first mile is much needed to wake up! haha! its like im still trying to convince my legs that running is a good idea during that mile;) hope you all have a good week! good luck at your 10k!! Great job on your run! I love your “nerdiness”! I think my first mile is always either too fast, in which I end up going slower the rest of the time, or slower than the rest, in which I end up feeling like lead for the first mile, like you said! It’s hard to set an even pace AND feel good! Travel Spot recently posted..Oregon in a Nutshell

It was worth seeing for sure. I’m still thinking about it days later.

I always think the first mile stinks. My running friend and I laugh about it all the time.
Don’t worry about a slow mile! I often start slow too and totally give myself permission to do so!
I tell myself the same thing. Although then I spend the rest of the run trying to get back to my target average pace, so that’s probably bad.
Sounds like an awesome weekend to me! I really want to see Seeking a Friend For the End of the World..I’m a big fan of Steve Carell.

Steve Carell is awesome. Do you watch Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert? Love them too.

Running an even pace is so hard. I’m a work in progress on that one for sure.
