Virtual Marathon Recap

Yesterday was the official Virtual Marathon. Although Neil generously didn’t ask us to run all 26.2 miles on one day. I broke it up into a very manageable 8 runs. Coming off the Ragnar training and race, this was awesome in keeping me going and not letting me come up with excuses for taking a few weeks off.
Here’s how it went.
Yes, we were supposed to make original bibs, I’m really really uncreative in that area, so this is what I came up with.
OK, whatever – it’s a picture in the mirror and you probably can’t read it. But, with the $ sign as the lead in to the race number, I couldn’t help just write 1,000,000 .
I set out yesterday for my final 4 miles. There’s a road overlooking some cliffs nearby that I’d been wanting to run. Gorgeous morning. I stopped for several photo ops.
At my turnaround point.
There are two tiny little dots in the water there – surfers
Yesterday was one of those runs that was wonderful. Maybe it’s because my Run Keeper didn’t tell me my pace ever, maybe it was the weather or the scenery. But it was a great run!
There was a cycling race going on in the area today, so I had to share the road with hundreds of bikers. I think the weather put everyone in a good mood, myself included. I stopped when I saw some bike racers trying to get pictures and got hung up for a few minutes taking pictures of subsequent riders and the view. One guy told me I could make lots of money hanging out there. My good deed for the day.
So, here’s how the mileage added up:
4/19 – 3 miles
4/21 – 4 miles
4/22 – 1 mile
4/24 – 5 miles
4/27 – 2 miles
4/28 – 3.2 miles
4/29 – 4 miles
5/1 – 4 miles
Total 26.2 miles!!
I was trying to add up times but it’s kind of confusing. And, since I did do a lot of walking the first week coming off the relay race, my times are really pointless. Suffice it to say that it was over 6 hours.
Thanks Neil for hosting this race. I had lots of fun and loved the motivation.
I’m slightly inspired to host my own virtual race in honor of my big birthday in August… any sponsors out there want in on it? And, in the middle of all of this, I wrapped up the April Go the Distance Challenge by meeting my 62 miles for the month! Yay!!
