Three Things Thursday – winner, blog clean up and running
Three Things Thursday
1. The winner of my Daily Dose of Green giveaway as chose by Random.org is… Sarah! Congratulations Sarah! Thank you everyone for entering.
2. Making some changes on the blog – If you’re reading my blog on your reader or by email, you won’t notice these changes, but go visit my little home for real and let me know what you think. I took the blogroll off the sidebar and made a separate page of links to all my favorites. You can find some great blogs to read by checking out the page – click the “Favorite Blogs” link in the top menu. I also cleaned up the widgets on the sidebar and hopefully everything just loads more quickly.
3. Workouts this week – Monday I did my own version of a speed workout – 6 miles total, 2 warm up, 3 tempo and 1 cool down. I kept a 3:30/1:00 run/walk plan and kept my average pace for the 3 middle miles at 10:52 which is just a teeny bit faster than my goal HM pace. It was really hard to keep that average pace with the run/walk. But, look at my pace on the 3:30 segments, awesome! You can see how exhausted I was by #11. I wasn’t really intending for this to be an interval workout, I was going for 3 tempo miles but with the run/walk intervals, so it just worked out that way.
That was Monday – on Tuesday I took a group fitness class at the gym. It was a cardio/strength interval class and the squats and lunges again kicked my butt. Then, yesterday I went for a 3 mile run. I was at the gym and set out to do them at an 11:00 pace. I was with my friend and it was a good test of being able to talk while I ran at a faster pace than my long run pace. It was challenging, but definitely not max effort. After 3 hard workouts in a row, I’m a bit tired. I think today is going to be a nice long walk with my dogs and maybe some upper body weights. I’m still trying to figure out when I’m going to get my last longer speed workout in before the RnR Half in 10 days. It may just have to be Monday with our busy weekend… I’m wondering if that’s too close to the race? Think 6 miles is a good distance again with 3 tempo miles? And then I’ll get one more easy run in during the week and wrap things up…
Don’t forget to vote: So many awesome blogs are being recognized. No there isn’t really an official ‘prize’ at the end, but just recognition of some great blogs and a little feature on Circle of Moms.
I’m thinking about giving the run/walk thing another try. I have another half in a few weeks and was thinking about doing that for that race and see how my time compare. This is just another good example that it can work. Great workouts!

I love the run/walk for just keeping me feeling good. As long as I start off with the run/walk, my body gets in a rhythm and I can keep up the intervals. If I start walking later in a race, then it’s just hard to start up again. Good luck with your next race.
Blog looks great! Nice workouts this week:) I think Monday should be fine for your 6 miler. Wow, RNR LA should be fun. I have a half the day before:) Can’t wait to hear about it!

Awesome job on your intervals! I love the new cleaned up look on the blog, too. I’m trying to remember to vote for you and the FFAs every day!

Thanks! for all of it
I wouldn’t worry about doing another speed workout the week before the Half — at this point all you can do is injure yourself. I would do one run at a moderate pace, and one at an easy pace – that’s what I did this week before the ATM.
