Three Things Thursday – trying to catch you up quickly
| October 4, 2012 | Posted by Carrie under Running |
I know I’ve been kind of quiet this week. So, here’s to catching up quickly with a Three Things Thursday.
1. My brain is swirling with so many things and I think I’ve spent the last 3 days sending out seemingly hundreds of emails trying to finalize the programs I’m coordinating at Dude’s school (in addition to the Healthy Ever After program, I coordinate the library). So there are 21 teachers, each with a time slot that needs coordinating and each with a different volunteer docent for each program. My brain might explode at this point with all the emails back and forth and who was where and who did what and whose schedule is when. I’m trying not to complain, I did volunteer for this, but there hasn’t been a lot of leftover brain power for much else. I’m lucky the kids have gotten where they need to go and everyone is fed and not forgotten anywhere. And because I’m at Dude’s school all the time lately, I decided to channel my inner Caroline and take a picture in the bathroom at the school. Now, Caroline’s son’s school’s adult bathroom is always all decorated for any holiday… we’re boring – and the mirror is really dirty.
2. On the job search front - I turned in an application yesterday for a position that seems like it would be a great fit for me. The hiring process for the position is a civil service structure and there was a supplemental application that I had to submit with my regular application. The supplemental application was 10 questions and I wasn’t allowed to answer more than one page per question. It was basically a job interview in writing. I wrote 7 full pages. The thing that I’m finding that is so challenging about job searching is that I’m putting a lot of effort into each position for which I apply. Especially this one. I put on my best sales techniques and get pretty excited about the position. It kind of stinks because I invest a lot into each application and then find that nothing happens. I’m learning to not talk about what I’m applying for until there comes some additional steps and things seem promising. So, no words here either.
3. Workouts are going well. After the exhausting day at Disneyland on Sunday, I took Monday off. Tuesday I went for a run, but because of my crazy schedule at the moment, the only time I could head out for a run was after lunch. So, I went for a run at 1PM on one of the hottest days of the year. Not so super smart. But, I wanted to get it done. I made it for 30 minutes and called it a wrap just short of 3 miles. That was fine. Yesterday I went to the gym with my friend and did 30 minutes on the elliptical and then a strength routine. I’ve taken a long break from the elliptical because it seemed to be aggravating my knee, so I started back at really light resistance. We’ll see how it goes. Maybe if I just stick to once a week on the thing, it’ll be fine. Today I’m going for a run and then Friday and Saturday are going to be rest days getting ready for the Long Beach Half on Sunday. Eeek! My last half marathon was in February… that seems like a long time ago.
(just a pretty picture of the sky last night)

Nope – no decorations at my son’s school in the bathroom.
& I love a pretty sky at night!

I get a little camera happy with pretty skies and pretty clouds. Make for good blog filler, too.
No kids so can’t comment on school bathrooms, but I did want to offer some encouragement on the job search! I am also seeking a job right now, and it’s tough out there. You feel like your resume is going to the black hole sometimes – but hang in there. It will happen (for both of us!)

Thank you for the encouragement. I know something will come along, it’s just hard to get super excited about something in the super early stages. Good luck to you too – the perfect jobs are out there, they’ll find us.
I just know the perfect job for you is out there and it will find you!
I hope you have fun and enjoy your half this weekend.

Thank you Elle. It will. I’m such a planner, it’s hard to sit back and relax for the beginning processes of job searching.
Wow, you are busy! I hope the people appreciate how hard you are working:) Good luck on your job search and I am so excited for your race!! You are going to do great!

Thanks! I do get some good feedback from a few people that realize all the challenges of coordinating volunteers. But, I also bug the teachers to death with changes, so they aren’t always happy with me by the end of the scheduling process.
Busy, busy! Wow! Hope you get the job!

Thank you Kierston. Me too.
I’m glad there are people like you who volunteer for these things, because I won’t. I KNOW it’s got to be a huge headache to coordinate everything. Love the bathroom pic

I suck at volunteering in the classroom as much as you do. I tend to do the behind the scenes, let’s organize everyone type projects. Insane.
