Three Things Thursday – ok, way more than three things
| May 10, 2012 | Posted by Carrie under books |
Man, I’m wordy this week… so this is double the Three Things Thursday
1. I feel like I’m coming out from under the huge cloud of the semester of school. I’ve been putting so much energy into just getting the basics covered that I’ve had little energy for much else. I hate talking on the phone lately and haven’t even been talking to my mom very much. We had dinner the other night and that may have been our first real conversation in probably 6 weeks. I’m even getting a little ahead of myself and lining up some books to read. I won’t download them until next week – still have 2 finals to go.
2. I went for a run yesterday. I can’t say that the stars were aligned for this one. It wasn’t horrible, and it was only 2 miles. But, it was like my stomach was in shock that I wanted to go faster than a walk. My legs and mind thoroughly enjoyed it. I even worked up a decent sweat. Yay! You’re welcome to my classmates for being stinky.
3. There are a few things that I hate to grocery shop for (this is probably worthy of its own blog post), one is jam or jelly (butter and mayonnaise are two others). I hate the ingredient lists on almost every option out there. Sugar in every form possible in the jams or jellies (what’s the difference between the two anyway?). After my new found love of Chia seeds, this recipe that I found on Pinterest yesterday looks amazing. I may make some today.

4. The orthopedist told me to keep my foot/ankle compressed. He said the KTTape is fine, but suggested I get a neoprene ankle sleeve. I went to the sports therapy store he suggested and wasn’t impressed with the bulkiness of my options. I’ve been looking for a reason to try a Tommie Copper product and I think this is the perfect opportunity. I ordered it already.

5. I’m going for a run again today and then want to do a long run on Saturday. My last long run was 4 weeks ago at 8 miles. Is it a bad idea to go farther than that 8 miles? Should I go less? Is my idea of going 10 a bad one?
And finally
6. I had the brilliant idea the other day to combine my two worlds – the parent and the student. At Dude’s school, the PTA has partnered with a nutrition program through the local hospital. Our volunteer parent help has been pretty slim. Then, it occurred to me that Dietetics students are all looking for ways to get some work experience and boost up their resumes in preparation for the all important internship and that maybe they’d want to volunteer. So, I made an announcement in my nutrition class the other day and instantly got 5 volunteers! Yay! We only have one more session this year, but I’m hoping that some of the students will help next year. Yay for a good idea!
Do you like my counting skills? Anything you hate to grocery shop for? Do you know the difference between jam and jelly? Any thoughts on mileage for my long run this weekend? Anyone have any Tommy Copper products? Are they as good as billed?
And two final funnies from Pinterest:

Sorry your stomach gave you issues:( No fun. Good idea on the TC ankle sleeves. I want to get those too. I have the calf sleeves and loooooove them. Definitely live up to the hype! Not sure about 10 on Saturday. I guess just listen to your body:) I don’t like grocery shopping period.
So happy to hear the TC products live up to the hype. I can’t wait for it to arrive. Thanks!
Jam has seeds/fruit bits, jelly has been strained…that’s why I make jam, not jelly. Too much trouble to strain all the bits out. Look for a brand called, All Fruit (I think), because they just use fruit and pectin, no added sugar…which makes them kind of a preserve/jam cross, but very tasty.
Ok, so now you throw in the term Preserves… what does that mean? I guess I’m a jam fan. I used to not like anything with bits, but I’ve become a big fan of blackberry jam. Yum!!! Thanks for sharing!
Well, I think technically preserves are a blanket term for any type of thing that has been preserved (so jam, jelly, etc), but in my family we tend to categorize them as things like apple butter.
Aha! That makes sense. Thanks! Apple Butter isn’t something I’ve enjoyed the first few times I’ve tried.
I like the second to last quote about Pinterest and FB. So true.
I think the difference between jam and jelly is that one of them is smooth and one is chunky. But honestly, I am not sure. I don’t really eat either one. Only when I go to a diner for breakfast, becuase one of those packets they give you at the table is really enough for me. However, I prefer chunky over smooth. With PB too.
But why do you hate butter? And mayo? I feel like they are both okay, as long as you don’t overdo it. Like eating an entire bowl of spinach dip.
It’s not that I don’t like either butter or mayo. It’s that I don’t like shopping for them. I try to go with the more ‘real’ food, but there are just so many choices it’s overwhelming. My kids like the flavor of a yogurt based butter that I’ve been getting for a while. I don’t use either one very often, so I guess it doesn’t make that much of a difference.
Thanks for the help!
I hate to grocery shop for household things like paper towels and toilet paper!
I’m a Costco fan for that kind of stuff. Not only is it cheaper, but you get to buy in such huge quantities that I don’t have to shop for it all very often. YAY! Thanks for visiting and commenting.
Sorry, but no way should you do 8 or 10 miles this weekend! You ran 2 this week, so I would do no more than 4-6 this weekend.
I came up with that number earlier in the week because that was next on my schedule that last week before the race last weekend. I know you’re right – it just became a mental thing. I thought my 8 miler was three weeks ago and only realized this morning that it was 4 weeks. Thank you for the input. The voice of reason is always appreciated.
I love my TC gear so I hope you enjoy yours too!
I wore it for my run today and loved it. My knee is acting a bit off, I’m thinking of getting a sleeve for it. Maybe they’ll just make a full body suit?
