My Thanksgiving Wish For You
| November 21, 2012 | Posted by Carrie under attitude about food, balance, FitFluential, food, intuitive eating |
I have a Thanksgiving Wish for you. But first, I have a Thanksgiving Reading Assignment. Please take a minute and go to the following three articles and read them.
I shared this blog post yesterday on Facebook and I really wanted to share it again here. It’s a wonderfully written post by my blogger friend Coco. She writes about her approach to a healthy Thanksgiving and how it’s come full circle over the years. I love her attitude about being healthy on the holiday.
The second assignment today is about the attitude towards labeling a meal as a ‘cheat meal’ or food as ‘bad’.
I’ll share more thoughts on this topic next week as we head deeper into the holidays, but here are two great posts to read. First is from Miss Fit Brit who writes about her thoughts on cheat meals. The second is from my blogger friend Tamara at Fit Knit Chick who writes about labeling food ‘good’ and ‘bad’. Labeling food this way is such an unhealthy habit. It’s a sure way to go down the slippery slope of then labeling yourself ‘good’ or ‘bad’ depending on what you’ve eaten.
We’re all amazing people. My Thanksgiving wish for all of you is to treat your body and mind with respect. Appreciate your flaws and embrace your strengths. Live life fully and don’t let your own attitude towards food get in your way of anything. Enjoy your day tomorrow – celebrate and be thankful for all that you have.

Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks Laura. I hope you had a wonderful holiday.
Carrie, thanks so much for including my post today! Hoping you and your family have a fantastic Thanksgiving! (Although we live in Canada, we are celebrating as well. My hubby and kids are dual citizens, so we get two Turkey days every year!)

Tamara is the best!
Love this Carrie. I’ve read Tamara’s post and hate to say it but I’m often guilty of the unhealthy habit. There will be a goal of some sort for 2013 to help me break that habit. Off to check out the other post.
Happy Thanksgiving Carrie, to you and your family
That is a great goal for next year. Ban the unhealthy self-talk.
Have a Happy, Healthy Thanksgiving!
Great post! The part that spoke to me most was “appreciate your flaws and embrace your strengths”. Beautiful (and true) words. Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful and best to your family.

Thanks so much for sharing my post. And I love the others too! I have mostly gotten away from the ideas of “cheating” and “good” vs. “bad” foods, but those ideas are so pervasive in our society (and in marketing and advertizing) it is hard to avoid falling into those traps. This year, I cared the least abut how much I ate at Thanksgiving, and I think I ate the least — don’t get me wrong, I had seconds and pie, but my helpings were small and I didn’t snack much during the day or raid the fridge later.

I did a lot of self-talk this year too. I reminded myself to pick the stuff that was ‘worth it’ and not just eat mindlessly. I reminded myself that there would always be more food and that if I wasn’t hungry at that time, the food would still be there when I was.
What a great message! Thanks for sharing!

Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving! Respecting flaws and strengths, respect what we have to work with does so much for increasing the probability of success.
