Welcome to the first week of Sunday Menu Planning hosted by two of my favorite bloggers Laura and Jill. Two people who are wonderful cooks and huge food fans and busy busy ladies who find time to be active and inspire us all to be healthy as well.
This is something I normally do on Mondays and I think it’s a great idea for me to get my act together and get it done earlier. Mondays are the only night of the week where we have no plans. We all have dinner together and homework gets done and we start the week off rather quietly.
And then things get crazy. Dancing Girl has dance the rest of the week (although Tuesdays it’s late enough that we do eat dinner together). Dude starts football practice this week on Wednesday nights and it’s a late practice. Then there’s the usual Thursday craziness with Torah school for the kids and still dance for Dancing Girl after that and MMT has softball on Thursdays. Friday this week is hectic too and then I’m running my half marathon on Sunday, so I’m listing Saturday night as pizza night since that just sounds good for pre-race food.
This is my CSA delivery week (Tuesday morning), so some of my planning will change after I see that. Mainly the side dishes.
As you can see from my menu plan, we are at Disneyland all day today. (Actually I wrote this on Saturday night because I really wanted to participate). If you’ve been a reader around here for a while, you’ll remember my family’s favorite Disneyland activity called Mouse Adventures. It’s kind of like Amazing Race at Disneyland. They put it on twice a year and today is the 2nd one of the year. This is our fourth time participating and the first time we won the new family category and the second time we won the Family category. Last time we put in a good effort and are ready to redeem ourselves today. There is absolutely no meal planning going on today. The game starts at 9:45 and we have to turn in our scorecards at 4:00 and we don’t stop for lunch. We eat bars and snacks and usually fortify the tired children with candy at some point during the day. After the miles and miles we walked last time out, my kids have asked me to wear my Garmin and see how much we walk today. The theme today is Road Trip – we are figuring much time will be spent in the new Cars Land. Wish us luck.
Here’s the menu plan for this coming week. The starred nights are those that I know my husband isn’t home for dinner, so I’ll probably have something hugely veggie based and something I know he wouldn’t really like anyway.
Go check out the Menu Planning Link up. It’s not too late to participate, and there are prizes involved if you’re in on the party. Thank you ladies. I’m looking forward to seeing how everyone plans. And, I’m looking forward to seeing if I actually stick to the plan.
Do you menu plan for the whole week? Do you plan lunches as snacks? As you can see, I don’t. Maybe that’ll change as my life changes with the whole job thing, but since I’m still home, snacks are handy and don’t need planning.
I love that you have a hugely veggie meal when the husband is not around. I do the same. Sometimes after an evening run, I even just eat a bowl of mashed cauliflower while watering the plants. Is that weird? I love veggies and probably eat vegetarian 4 days out of a week. Travel Spot recently posted..Taking Stock
I’d easily be a mostly vegetarian if I wasn’t cooking for 3 other people. My husband gets annoyed when I prepare multiple meals for everyone, but reality is that we all have different taste preferences. I don’t want to eat a burger 7 nights a week like he does. And he doesn’t like fish. Which reminds me that maybe I’ll make fish one of those nights he’s not home.
Pretty much I have oatmeal most mornings too. Have fun in Disney! We went to Disney World last month for 10 days! My boys had a blast! Lisa recently posted..Meal Plan Fall 2012 week 1 {What’s for Dinner?}
Aw, thanks for your sweet words. I am starting with dinner planning… our breakfasts are usually oats or eggs, and lunch depends on what leftovers are in the house. Snacks are more whatever I’m in the mood for. So glad you’re linking up! Laura @ Mommy Run Fast recently posted..What’s for Dinner? Menu Planning Link Up
I’m trying to be a little more official about my snacks now that I’ve looked at the menu planning. I was getting a little slack-er about it and having less portion controlled snacks, so I think a little planning might be helpful about now.
I can only get inspired to plan for a few meals but have staples on hand to fix pasta, grilled cheese, etc. after that. I just don’t like to get take-out or pizza on week nights — it’s faster to fix a sandwich.
I can’t believe your Half is this weekend! Coco recently posted..Holding My Tongue
I can’t really believe the half is Sunday either. Although this isn’t the one I’m nervous about.
I get on a roll with menu planning and then tend to be DONE. I wish my husband would go for a grilled cheese during the week. He’s such a take-out kind of guy. I can only force my healthy habits on him to a point.
Thanks for hosting! Don’t you ever feel like the afternoons are “ready, set, go” kind of efforts – - off to the races. I totally appreciate the slow evenings.

Wow! Disney for 10 days! That would be so much fun and so exhausting. Although I guess if you’re going for a long time, you can pace yourself.

Thanks again for hosting – such a good challenge.

I know exactly what you mean by “and things get crazy”! I”m looking forward to hearing more about your CSA and what recipes you use with what you get.
Thanks for linking up!
