One of the things I love about having a Garmin is looking at the maps it generates when I’m done with my workouts. However, I don’t usually share them here since many times my runs start and end at my house. I wanted to share a little map fun since we were put on technology blackout during our day yesterday – no phones, no pictures… I may find some on their website later to share.
Yesterday with our fun Mouse Adventure day, I clocked our mileage. I only stopped my timer when we sat down to figure out puzzles, so it tracked us for most of the game that we played. We were going for about 4 1/2 hours including walking back and forth from the parking lot – totaling over 7.5 miles.
Here’s a zoom in of California Adventure. As you can see, we did a lot of back and forth and back and forth.
The weather yesterday was pretty hot. I think we all managed the heat pretty well and no one seemed to overheat. Apparently there were two players who did need medical attention because of the heat.
While the day was fun and the quests were challenging, we didn’t win anything. We probably weren’t even close, but it was a fun day (with only a little bit of arguing – seriously, how do people on the Amazing Race do these types of things and not argue). The people who create this game are so creative and the quests are so detailed. One of the quests involved little tile stickers and we had to recreate two different murals in the park and there were letters on each sticker that then spelled out a question. That was one of the most original quests – and my favorite.
We’re finding that we’re pretty good at solving the initial puzzles and then the outcome of the first puzzle is usually a question and then we struggle with figuring out the answer to that question.
Next Mouse Adventures is set for the Spring. No official date yet.
Do you like looking at the maps for your GPS device?
that sounds like such an awesome thing to do together! id love to participate in something like that! i am so huge on looking at my garmin maps after a run…i am always shocked when someone tells me they have never uploaded their run before…i think its really cool! It was fun – they’ve been doing Mouse Adventures at Disneyland for 12 years. They do it at Disneyworld too. I think their event is in 3 weeks and people were talking about staying the week after that in Florida and then they run the Wine and Dine Half. Fun group of people.
What a fun adventure! I rarely look at the map… I only download my info every few weeks, and most of my routes are the same. But it’s a great feature! Laura @ Mommy Run Fast recently posted..September Recap and Canvas Photo Giveaway
I need to get me one of them gizmos, though not sure what gizmo it is; a Garmin you wear on your body?
My wife & I are going to WDW in January, and I’m going to be dragged from one corner to the next and over all corners in between. Patrick recently posted..Your True You
I’ve never been to WDW, I totally want to go. The Garmin is a watch. There’s a new model out that supposed to be sleeker and cheaper… the Garmin 10 I think.
I rarely look at the map after a run but sometimes when I do it makes me laugh. It looks so haphazard. Suzanne recently posted..Starbucks in Seattle (Giveaway)
That’s hilarious, I do the same thing sometimes when I’m not running. I wish it worked indoors because I think wearing it in a shopping mall or grocery store would be hysterical (clearly I need a new hobby). Jan recently posted..Final Outfit Decision and I’m Drowning
No new hobby needed. Sometimes I hate going on the treadmill at the gym (when I go with my friend) just because I know I don’t get to see all the nerdy data that my Garmin collects. I think I have a problem, too.
With all the technology around these days, no one is getting lost. A few of my daughter’s friends have iPhones and I know their parents purchased them with the intention of being able to track their kids.
I love looking at the maps, and the elevations! My brother must have the same Garmin as you, because that is what his map looks like. He wore his heart monitor to bed the other day and tracked his HR all night and it was amazing that it fluctuated. We can’t quite figure out if those were times he was awake or what. Anyway, it’s fun to track all the numbers/maps/info! I love it! Travel Spot recently posted..Currently: October
Kind of cool to track your HR while sleeping. Runners are such number nerds. I get my maps from Garmin Connect, the website that you can upload your data. So, I think it’s all Garmins.

Yes, there were a few spots that we may have worn a path in the concrete.

Thanks! I don’t usually look closely when it’s the same old route either.

I do laugh when I know the GPS has gone wonky and puts me in some weird spot at some crazy fast pace.
