How To Refocus on Your Healthy Goals
| January 8, 2011 | Posted by Carrie under #jangtd, binges, exercise goals, gym buddy, mindful eating |
Did you lose your healthy focus over the holidays? I wouldn’t say I completely lost my focus as my workouts were great during the last 6 weeks. Exercise isn’t the problem, it’s food. My eating got a bit sidetracked. As I was gently reminded by Rachael, diet is 70% of the of the effort.

With the start of the new year, I shifted my efforts of my healthy goals back to my eating. Now that the first week of the year is wrapping up, I’m checking in with myself and all of you. Here’s how I’ve structured my goals:
1. Food
The week was great. I feel like I enjoyed food this week, didn’t go overboard and yet didn’t deny myself. I tried to enjoy my food. I made a yummy turkey chili early in the week and worked that into my lunch most days. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I had a true binge. You know the binge where you eat and eat and can’t get enough. It’s been a long time and I’m really proud of that.
My pants are fitting better and I took my measurements this morning and I’m about where I usually am. My hips were measuring 1/2″ bigger, but my waist was the same. Those are the areas I feel show a weight gain, so I’m good with that. In the mirror, my butt looks firmer to me with all the running and exercise of late. I know I’m not consistent on what clothes I have on when I take my measurements, so 1/2″ user error is possible.
The major thing that’s been eliminated from my diet this week is cheese and wine. We entertained quite a bit over the holidays and had cheese fondue, brie and all kinds of yummy cheese in the house. There was a lot leftover and I wound up having a bit of cheese most days in my meals. While I never went overboard, it was still a lot of cheese. And there was wine many days as well. Just a glass or the occasional 2nd glass, but I think those are the two items that have a big impact on my body.
There have still been treats this week. I made croissants the other morning and had one (the mini Trader Joe’s ones – so yummy). I took Dude for frozen yogurt the other day and had a reasonable portion with some yummy toppings. I feel great. I tried to up my fruit and veggies and drank lots of water and tea. For meals, I really aimed to have a balanced plate of food.
2. Exercise
The other downside of the week is that I still haven’t completed my first strength circuit for #jangtd. I will get that done, I don’t know what my mental block is. I do strength at the gym, I just can’t seem to get the circuits done.

The fun part of the week is that I joined a new gym. I’m so excited. It’s brand new and pretty and is saving me tons of money each month. My old gym was at a club that had tennis and pools, etc. No one else in the family used the membership, so we were totally overpaying for me to use a few machines. The new situation is great. The only downside is that my gym buddy belongs to the old gym. For a variety of reasons, it doesn’t make sense for her to switch, so I’ve had to go on my own. I do have another friend that belongs to the new gym and I actually know some other people who are members. Besides, I’ve learned to enjoy exercise and it’s become so much a part of my routine that I’m totally ok going by myself. Yay me!
It’s been a good week overall. I’m debating how I work in my training this weekend. I’m supposed to run a 5K race, but there isn’t one. So, I’m going to do my own and shoot for a 10:30 pace. I’ve got 4 weeks until my 10K!
Before you go, please take a minute to connect with me with the Google Friend Connect on my sidebar. I’d love for you to always be up to date with my blog!
How was the first week of the year for you? Were you able to refocus and get back to your usual healthy living efforts? Let’s do this!

Don’t sound too excited about your new gym buddy!:(
I do love my new gym buddy – I think it’s more like “re-newed” gym buddy. We did go to Curves together all those years ago
Hopefully we can help each other stay motivated!
oh slowly getting there. Started “mindfully” eating food and cross-training more. =)

“mindfully” – that’s a good way to put it… sometimes I forget.
