How to love running – A Giveaway
| March 5, 2013 | Posted by Carrie under giveaway, Running |
Three years ago, I would have told you that running sucks. That I hated it and that you’d never catch me running unless I was being chased by something.
Somewhere along the line, I started to want to run. But it still sucked. I still hated it and couldn’t understand what the heck the ‘runners high’ was that everyone talked about. I wanted to learn how to love running.
Since then, I’ve run 5 half marathons. And I’m seriously itching to sign up for #6. A good run makes me happy.
Here’s what changed:
-
I’m slow – maybe someday I can be faster, but I’m not. I’m okay with that.
-
I learned to compare myself to myself, not to other people.
-
I signed up for a race that I hadn’t trained for. It was a 5K. It was really hard.
-
I decided to run another race and see if I could do better.
-
I decided to run another, longer race and followed a training plan.
Here’s the thing – running is hard. I’ve made lots of mistakes and I’ve learned a lot along the way.
The best half marathon that I ran was when I had a training plan put together by my friend MCM Mama. I followed her plan and had a fantastic experience. I went into the race well prepared and uninjured.
Since then, I’ve branched out on my own, or really just winged it and ran. Since then, I’ve had numerous injuries and am always thinking I know better, but I seriously don’t.
I think the coaching opportunity is huge.
A while back, I met an inspiring blogger through the Go The Distance Challenges… Brad Gansberg has an amazing running program for new runners. Brad is really knowledgeable about running – having started as an overweight and out of shape guy who thought that running sucked. He’s now successfully trained for and completed a multitude of distances including a full Ironman.
Why am I telling you about Brad’s program? Because he’s trying to spread the word about how everyone can learn to love running with the help of a coach. Brad has generously offered a Running 101 or 201 program to one of my readers. This program (a $99 value) is great for anyone. If you’re unsure of how to train for your goals or even if you’re just struggling to stay uninjured, Brad will help you reach your goals! You will receive 100 days of coaching designed to get you to run your first 5K in the 101 program or to whatever distance you choose in the 201 program.
Please spread the word to anyone who may be interested. The giveaway will end on Tuesday, March 12th. Follow the Rafflecopter instructions below.
Disclaimer: Please consult a medical professional before beginning a new exercise program. I am in no way affiliated with the Running 101 and 201 programs, all opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this post. I just want to share my love of running.

I started running last year and have to keep starting over because of a foot injury. It’s been very frustrating. I have big plans for my race season in 2013 any help is welcome.
Glad you found your love of running:) So many people I talk to say they hate running, and inside it makes me sad. If only they could really experience it and do it the right way, slow and steady to start, they would love it!

Everyone can benefit from coaches. I just got certified to coach and am looking forward to helping others, but I’d still love a coach to push me!

Awesome. This is not for me right now, unfortunately, but I think it is a great gift and will certainly help spread the word!
I want to win because I have a goal at getting a PR in a 5K and Half this year and need to enlist the help of a professional

I’d love to try out a coaching program. I’ve sort of been “winging” it with my running, but am ready to get more serious and see just what I can accomplish if I really put my heart into it.
I want to PR in all my races this year and run my first half marathon and a coaching program would help me accomplish that.
I’m about to run my 5th Half and I have my 6th on June 1. I’ve been thinking about getting a running coach to help push me with the knowledge to do so safely. This would be perfect for me! Thank you for offering it!

I would love to win. I love running, but don’t always have th drive to push myself to the next level to get faster & more efficient.
Would love a coach!
Debbie – you won! Send me an email.
I would love this! I still don’t like to run but do it anyway. I did well a few years ago and not so much anymore! I would like to be able to run longer distance without giving up!
I’m training for my first full marathon (again). I attempted it last summer but got injured. This time I want someone to guide me along and get me across the finish line injury free and happy!

I don’t always want to GO running, but once I do, I always feel so great about myself afterward! I don’t need the coach, but I just wanted to say to the new runners…it really helps to have a friend to run with as well. For support, for company, and for commiseration!

I love running but often get frustrated because I don’t feel like I am at the running place I should be. I still heal strike like crazy which makes running long distances uncomfortable. A coach would be nice to have someone to push me and let me know what I can do to become a stronger runner.
This is a really cool giveaway. I’ve got a 10k walk next weekend but a friend of mine has really been pushing me to run a 5k…and then another 5k and then maybe we’ll do a 10k later this summer? she asks
Might as well give it a try!

I would love to have a coach for 3 reasons 1. someone to push me a little bit harder than I might do on my own, 2. the accountability and 3. I know how to come up with a training plan but I don’t always have the time to monitor and tweak like I should. I guess I’m trying to say more effective training
Awesome giveaway!
