Go The Distance Challenge – The First Half of 2012
| July 3, 2012 | Posted by Carrie under #GoTheDist, Running |
Back in January, I joined in on the Go The Distance Challenge hosted by the amazing Fat Girl v. World. Go back here and see how I kicked off the year. I challenged myself to complete 1000 miles this year. My plan was to combine the mileage of walking and running and those done on the elliptical machine.
Since the year is now half over, it’s about time to check in on that challenge.
My running mileage through June – 244
My walking mileage through June – 76
I set my Go The Distance challenge goals before I started to incorporate more biking into my workout plan. But I have been tracking my bike miles, so here they are.
My bike mileage for the year: 30 miles
Total mileage: 350
I had actually meant to include elliptical miles in the challenge, but I seem to be majorly slacking in keeping track of those miles, so I think I’m making the executive decision (I don’t think there’s a rule against this) to include bike miles instead.
I’m obviously far from my target of 1000 miles for the year.
In past Go The Distance challenges, I set the bar low and picked a mileage total that I knew I could complete.

It’s great that you set the bar so high! That’s how we grow and improve – by striving for the BEST.
In January, I set a 600-miles running goal for the year, but I’m likely far from that, too. It was very ambitious, and I set it just as I was really getting into running. My motivation has waned, and tough scheduling and weather have gotten in the way. I do like how you incorporated ALL forms of mileage (cycling, walking, elliptical-intented) into the mix, because they all do count! I’ll keep working toward mine, just as you’re continuing toward yours. Thanks for the check-in and reminder to keep going!

Thanks for the encouragement. Sitting down to look at the numbers really helped me get motivated again. You can do it!
What a great idea! I actually didn’t even know you could look at monthly miles on Daily Mile until seeing this. You are putting down some serious miles–keep up the good work!
I love looking at at the nerdy numbers
My mileage sucked in June., I better pick it up in July for sure. Good luck! 1000 miles is an awesome goal!

Thanks! You’ll get there this month. You’ve got a lot planned!
I LOVE THIS POST! this is something i have been trying to learn this year. its okay to set big goals and its of course fantastic to reach them but its also okay if you dont because they encouraged you to push harder, try something new and you likely learned something and got stronger as a result! good luck with the second half of the year! you rock! im cheering for you and think you have set a fantastic goal!
I’m so glad it all made sense. I was hoping it would. Thank you for understanding and for cheering me on!
I think I do a little of both. I want to make my goals realistic so that I can actually achieve some of them, but I also want to push myself…but not get crazy!
I think you have a plan. Go for it!

It was also challenging to set a goal for a whole year that needed constant attention. It’s been a good experience already. Thanks for the encouragement!
Oh, I don’t set goals like this because I’m not good at reevaluating and adjusting if I need to — like if I spend the year trying to resolve a mystery injury.
But, you did get me to check DailyMile and I’ve logged 620 miles through June, much of that thanks to my dog!

You can definitely make up for it in the second half of the year. Always better to set the bar high!
