Cross Fit – Sweaty mess and amazing workout

Workouts don’t need to be fancy. I did my first cross fit workout this morning and this is all we needed.
I mentioned a few times already that I was going to meet up with my friend to workout (college roommate – we’ve known each other seemingly forever). She does a cross fit workout daily at her work – she’s a police officer. So, off I went to the police academy to get my butt kicked.
We started out with a 1/4 mile run. She’s tall and leggy and I was already pushing things to keep up. Then our workout was 5 moves, each for 50 seconds with a 10 second rest. Here’s how the whole round went.
-
run
-
squats
-
skater lunges
-
bridge leg lift (l)
-
bridge leg lift (r)
-
pushups
We did 4 rounds and finished with a cool down run.
Holy moly! During the 3rd round I started to get that ‘queasy stomach flip flop omg I think I might pass out’ feeling. So, I did modify a little bit on the 4th round. I also modified the bridge leg lifts a little bit as my hamstrings kept cramping. I must work on my hamstrings, they are seriously weak.
Wow, were my legs tired. And, then my arms. It was a great workout. Look how sweaty we were!
I love the idea of cross fit. Muscle confusion, don’t let you body get comfortable with your workouts. Do short, high intensity workouts and get on with your day.
Because we were pushing ourselves so hard while we were working out, we didn’t get that much time to chat. But, we took a good amount of time to stretch when we were done, so there was plenty of time for socializing.
I really loved it. I loved having a friend who would push me. She uses the Bodyrock workout as her base for each day. Seriously, she just writes the workouts on a post it and then off we go. How simple!
Funniest part – she works at the police academy. The road that we were using runs parallel to the shooting range. So, we were running to the motivation of gun shots. I was trying to channel my inner criminal and run away from them.
I think I’m going to be able to work in a workout with her on one of my school days each week when school starts again. Until then, I really want to get in a day or two on my own.
Do you do Cross Fit? What’s your favorite source for a WOD (Workout of the Day)?
I’m going to link this up in the morning with Jill’s Fitness Friday Blog Hop – go check it out. I know my schedule/blog publishing/timing is a little wacky. Summer schedule people
Seriously I think I’m too lazy to do all of that!! Good for you for completing it! Always love a workout that ends in the “almost pass out” feeling.

I think I’d pick the ‘almost pass out’ feeling over the ‘I’m going to barf’ feeling. The thing I like most about the workout is that it is really short. 5 exercises essentially for one minute. Repeat 3-4 times. My friend throws in the run because she’s mean. You should try it
The more I hear about CrossFit, the more I want to try it out! Sounds like a more intense variation of the spin/run/lift workout I do, without the biking! Running to the sounds of gunshot – that’s funny! There’s a shooting range near the trail where I sometimes run; I always get freaked out when I’m running through the trees and hear gunshots!

That would freak me out too… especially if I was running along and zoned out and forgot that I was that close to a shooting range. Freaky.
You should check out Cross Fit. There are tons of blogs that post daily workouts. You really don’t even need any special equipment. Everything can be done with body weight resistance.
CROSSFIT LOVEEE! I’m so glad you tried it finally! It’s. the best. (and literal love of my life)
Thank you! I’m so excited to keep it up. And my butt and thigh muscles that are screaming at me a bit right now are reminding me to keep it up. They need some work. I love the enthusiasm of the Cross Fit Community. So amazing!!
Sounds like fun! Once I’m finished with PT and confident of my recovery, I will try some of these kick-ass workouts!

It was seriously kick-ass. I’ve had that exhausted muscle feeling all day. No painful DOMS yet, we’ll see how I feel tomorrow.
Sounds like a lot of fun! I downloaded a WOD app to my iphone but have yet to try it.

I do that all the time – I’ve got a Daily Yoga app that I downloaded and never used. But, I’m going to go check out the WOD app
Love this post!!! I especially enjoyed the gun range image! I try to imagine I’m being chased by zombies, lol!
I’m new to the fitness blogging community and am doing the challenge at Fitness Cheerleader as well. I wrote about my 5 favorite foods today
Bye!

That’s a good way to run faster. Zombies would be quite motivating.
Good luck with the challenge.
Awesome job, Carrie! I still haven’t done an “official” cross fit workout, although the HIIT class was a similar, longer version. I am sure it would get fast results! I’m hoping to add a little more in, but running will always be my first love.

Thank you Laura. I’m getting so bored with my cross training workouts, so I’m hoping this can get me motivated and moving.
That looks like fun! It’s nice to have an active friend! I always thought real work is the best exercise! I have done some home remodeling, painting and roofing and boy, it kicks my butt WAY more than my normal run, or even some cross training! All you need to do is remodel your house on your own and you will be all set!

I have absolutely no motivation to remodel my own house – maybe that’s how some people are with exercise? Bummer.
I have been doing Crossfit for 8 months now. I actually go to classes at my local box (aka gym) It literally is a box though, its small. lol..I love it, it has changed my life. They are the hardest workouts I have ever done in my life. And my body is toned and tight. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the encouragement. I know the workouts are hard, I love the fact that they are short. It makes it easier to focus on what I’m doing when I know it’s over fast
It was fun working out with you…love your pics and comments!!! It’s so much easier to workout with a buddy. It’s hard to push yourself when you’re working out alone. But I suggest channeling your inner cop and chase the bad guy
Oh, chase the bad guy… that makes more sense. Hee hee. Thanks for reading
And letting me take and post pictures of you
Nice job with your first cross fit workout!
