Packable Lunches

Most of you parents out there are quite proficient in lunch packing skills for your kids. But, do you pack a lunch for yourself? Planning an adult packable lunch is my key to getting through the day without getting hangry by the end. I love that word – hangry: the point where you are so… more
Healthy Snacking Ideas – My first vlog

I did it! I finally recorded a video blog. It’s me, right after a workout, no makeup, big giant pimple on my chin and all. Pretty much how I look 90% of the time, so I thought I’d just share. I try not to have “Food Rules”, but there are a few guidelines in our… more
Hungry

I finally found a bone to pick with my favorite Fat 2 Fit Radio guys. They’re always talking about how they get to eat all this food while maintaining their healthy lifestyle and they’re never hungry. I don’t think it’s a good idea to not be hungry. I really believe in the philosophy of Intuitive… more

When I was overweight, I used to get frustrated at the people I considered thin when they would say they had to lose a few pounds. I didn’t get it. When you’re overweight, you don’t think that anyone who is thin could possibly have any problems. I couldn’t even imagine that thin people even focused on their weight (unless they were being obsessively influenced by media or celebs or something – but that’s it’s own blog post). The overweight person is thinking, “if only I could lose 30, 50, 100 (or whatever) pounds, then I’d be happy and I wouldn’t have to think about it anymore.”
That’s not true.
There are a lot of opportunities for speed bumps in being healthy. Whether you are trying to lose weight or trying to maintain a loss or just maintain in your every day life. We all have to balance out our days and our activities. Excess food is still excess food.
There are times when I eat too much too frequently. I know that I’m making bad choices.
It can be so easy to let the unhealthy habits take over. When I’ve had a few days of excess (especially when that involves sugar and sweets), it’s so easy to reach for the sugar again. Sugar is a trigger. When I have too much, I want it more. I want it first thing in the morning. I want to reach into the candy stash for some chocolate with my morning coffee.
I find that if my first few food decisions of the day are on track, then my day continues on in the same light. I get up, have my coffee, then breakfast (oatmeal) and make my lunch all within the first 2 hours of the day.
Then there are those days like when my awesome baking friend has baked me a treat and there is something yummy like pumpkin bread sitting on the counter. If I go for that bread in the morning, all I crave all day is sugar. It’s like a big granulated voice sitting on my shoulder and trying to talk me into stuffing more and more into my mouth.
