Last week I attended the 2014 IDEA Fit and Blogfest Conference in Anaheim. A few of my blogger friends have already written up some great recaps of the events, I’ll link to a few of them as I go on. Blogfest was produced by the amazing ladies at Sweat Pink and was a nicely integrated […] more

I’ve seen a lot of blogs come and go since I started blogging almost 4 years ago. With the changes in social media platforms over the years, I’ve seen bloggers who change from a full blog to more micro blogging sites and everything in between. While others disappear completely which makes me sad. I do […] more

I’m having so much fun reading all the Ragnar SoCal Recaps from my teammates that I can hardly sit down to write my own thoughts. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have seen much of my documentation of the weekend. I was planning to just give you some highlights, but I got a little […] more

Wow – how is it Ragnar Socal week already? 3 days!!
On Thursday night, I’m heading out to the OC to meet up with my fabulous team. We’re going to enjoy spaghetti dinner and then crash at a hotel so that Van 1 can get to the start for their safety meeting and a 6:45 start. I’m in Van 2 (runner 10) and am happy that I was able to maneuver my morning schedule to make it so that I can stay the night with the group. After they all get started, we are going to move cars and do a pick up at the Amtrak station to get the rest of our van mates and we’ll head to our start at about 10:30 on Friday morning.
The first van exchange is in Irvine.
I’m runner 10 – my 3 legs are 6.7 (moderate), 2.2 (easy) and 7.5 (hard) for a total of 16.3 miles.
The first leg is along a trail in Aliso Viejo – should be awesome – predicted to happen in early afternoon.
The second leg is in Vista, CA and it’ll be the middle of the night. Goal for the leg – go fast and get it done, don’t trip and fall in the dark (I’m just kidding about the dark thing – Ragnar has some serious safety rules, we have headlights, tail lights and reflective vests on when we run between 6:30PM and 6:30AM).
The third leg is in Mission Bay – I basically get to run the whole bay that circles Sea World. Should be beautiful. Predicted time is late morning on Saturday.
The moderate, easy and hard definitions are what Ragnar says about the legs. I don’t know why the last leg is classified as ‘hard’. It’s pretty flat. I think the van doesn’t get to travel along with me, although they’re pretty close. Doesn’t seem that hard to me. Except that it’s 7.5 miles on very little sleep and very tired legs.
There are only 2 runners after me, they’ll do about 13 miles and we’ll all finish together.
The current weather reports are predicting rain for Friday. Awesome. Although it keeps changing and right now it’s only a 20% chance, so maybe it’ll just be a few sprinkles here and there. We do know that the weather will be good running weather and won’t get much higher than the high 60s. At this point, I’m just wishing the earthquakes stay away – we’ve had enough little ones.
I’m running with an amazing group of people… several of whom I met in Portland at Fitbloggin last year, which is where Amy came up with this crazy idea. You can follow all of us on social media during the weekend, I’m sure we’ll be busy sharing the sights and fun. While a few of the ladies aren’t social media crazy people, we will be doing our best to not annoy them to pieces

While I do think I’m as ready as I can be for this weekend, I’m still a little anxious. I went into Ragnar 3 years ago having absolutely no idea what I was doing. I had only run a 10K before that and was such a new runner, I did all kinds of newbie things. I only hope I don’t totally overpack. Knowledge in this situation isn’t necessarily a good thing.
As far as the running part of the relay (oh yea, that) I had 2 good weekends of double runs in the last few weeks. I had a couple of 9 mile runs, that weren’t all good, with an 8 and a 7 miler that were good. I’m feeling strong and have been foam rolling away a few aches and pains stemming from mostly tight muscles – I managed to secure myself a lunch time ART treatment on Wednesday which should set me on my way. I know I’ll be using the foam roller that Debbie is bringing
