Be Myself
| November 28, 2012 | Posted by Carrie under Best Body Bootcamp, challenge, exercise goals |
Right now I’m participating in two challenges – Tina’s Best Body Bootcamp (which I’ve talked about a whole bunch of times) and Amanda’s Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge. I’m doing Best Body Bootcamp as a new workout opportunity – a way to challenge my body and improve my strength. Through both challenges, I’m trying to keep in mind to be myself and not compare myself to others.
I haven’t yet talked about HBBC From Run To The Finish, but here are the basics:
CHALLENGE BASICS
-
Earn points for being active during the holidays.
-
Earn points for eating 7-9 servings of fruits and veggies.
-
Meet other like minded folks to help you stay on track.
-
Win prizes!!
-
Get answers from experts in nutrition, running, cross fit, yoga and more.

Yes, wise words!! There is always someone stronger, faster, working out more, whatever… I catch myself falling onto that comparison trap as a blogger, but when you look around you in your day to day life, I bet you realize how MUCH you are doing compared to the average American.
Let’s be content with who we are. Thanks for the great reminder!

Thank you! Yes – bloggers are an overachieving bunch of active people.
I’m doing BBB and I definitely agree with the burpee comparison (I’ve done 10 burpees, then high knees for the rest of the minute). I just try to remind myself that I’m doing more burpees in one workout than I ever thought I could, and that makes me feel strong! I think it’s finding the sweet spot between pushing yourself a bit but not punishing yourself… if there’s still enjoyment (sometimes more than others, haha!) in it.
Yes! I did a workout a few months ago that called for 10 burpees each time and I think I only made it through 6. So, now I’m up to double. So happy with that!
Great post, Carrie. These competitions are very daunting and I am staying out of the fray. I find this challenge good for me, but only if I work it for me and don’t get involved in the really zealous competitions.
Stay true to yourself. I applaud your speaking out!

Thank you Elle. I find myself being super competitive and then having to step back into reality. Thanks for sharing my post, too.
amen!! i think it’s really easy to think OH I should do more and in some ways that is good, but only to a certain point then you have to respect what your goals are and where you are

Thanks Amanda! It’s important to stay true to our goals and to the reality of each of us being different. Thanks for the support and for all the work you do for the challenge.
It really is hard not to compair when others post their numbers, so I know how you feel there. You totally rock no matter how many burpees you get done. Just think of all the people out there who cannot even do one, or they don’t even want to try to do one. You are an amazing woman just the way you are!

Thank you Andrea. Your words are very kind and needed today.
I’m always amazed at the runners out there who can just run for miles and miles on end. I’m doing my first half marathon next year, and I’m quite intimidated by it and how easy it is for others to run. I can teach spinning classes for 4 hours straight and do fine, but have me run more than 3 miles and I’m dead. I just have to keep telling myself to take in one mile or one minute at a time.
I love your blog and you have done so much and so many amazing things! You are a great motivator, person, and athlete. Never doubt how amazingly strong you are:-)

Thank you Andrea. Your words are so kind.
Well I can barely do one burpee if that makes you feel better! I hate those things!

I bet you’d be surprised. But, they are quite torture.
This is a great post Carrie and so so true. I’ve felt the same way many times about the challenges – I’ll be happy with what I’ve done for the day and then realize that someone else has worked out for 10 hours that day. But you are absolutely right – we each need to be ourselves. My life probably looks a lot different from someone who has the time to work out 10 hours a day. We just need to keep in mind where we started and own our OWN journey. PS – 12 burpees per round is awesome! You’re doing a great job and like Andrea said, there are many people who can’t even do one.

Thank you Christine. There are so many facets of life in which we shouldn’t compare ourselves to others. Jobs, houses, cars… number of burpees
Good morning Carrie. Great perspective and focus! When you find the secret to doing this “be myself – not compare myself to anyone else and to be happy with where I’m at and where I’m going.” please share it with me. Ugh, the dilemma of never feeling like you are or doing “enough”.

When I find the secret, I’m going to bottle it and be a millionaire. Until then, I’ll have to keep blogging about it and reminding myself
YES.
I may go through life caring too too little about how others view me
but it’s working…so far.

Yes, it’s working!
Trust me, I know how you feel…I am 42 and joined the HBBC12 and it’s the first time I have EVER done anything like it. I didn’t even know these challenges existed, or any of the sort. I felt way out of my league at first but I just LOVE the support and wealth of knowledge at my fingertips from the chats/FB page and am considering it a huge learning advantage for me! I am new to running about 8 months ago and I don’t even know what a burpee is…so how’s that
LOL But I have this whole new love and curiousity for new things and challenging myself. Must be my age
I used to work out like crazy in my late 20′s early 30s but burnt out from doing too much! Moderation is key and keeping in mind that we are each on our own journeys but we can learn so much from others!! Best of luck to you!
