2 and a half hours – A Day in the Life

Today, my Fitfluential Ambassador Friends Jill (Fitness, Health & Happiness) and Angela (Happy Fit Mama) are hosting a link up of bloggers sharing a typical Day in the Life. I love this! Not only does it help me get out of my bloggy funk, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about lately. And because I’m also nosey and it’s fun to read what people do all day, but also because now that my kids are back in school, I was realizing that it takes me TWO AND A HALF hours every morning to get out the door of my house. Here’s my typical day.
5:01 – Alarm goes off – stumble out of bed, get a glass of water and 3 crackers to get something in my belly (MMT leaves for work at 5:30 – we’re both up at 5)
5:10 – start my workout
5:40 – finish workout
5:45 – 6:00 : get coffee and a slice of turkey or something if I’ve done a strength workout, drink coffee, read a few blogs
6:00 – 6:30 – shower and get dressed
6:30 – 7:00 – wake up Dude, get his breakfast going, wake up Dancing Girl (usually 4 times, she’s not a morning kid), make lunches, feed dogs
7:00 – eat my breakfast
7:15-7:30 – all the last minute stuff to get us out the door
7:30 – 8:00 – drop kids off at two different schools and get to work
8:00 – 5:00 – work
The rest of the day is hard to predict. Every day is different. Most days, I go straight to pick up Dude from his after school program. Dancing Girl is at dance by then and we don’t see her until between 7:30 and 9:00 (it varies). Right now Dude has soccer practice two days a week. Most days involve homework supervising, several trips to the kitchen to make various meals because everyone eats at different times and I just haven’t gotten a routine down. There’s usually some paperwork to be done, a load of laundry to be folded and, if I’m lucky, there’s some relaxing time on the couch.
There really probably is time to get in my workout at night, but I’d really rather workout in the mornings. It’s only a half hour, it’s totally worth it to get it done then.
I’m ready for bed by 9:00. But, I usually don’t actually go to bed until 10:00. I always lay out my workout clothes at night – if I had to scramble for them in the morning, it would make it so much easier to hit snooze.
Since the blog link up is also asking us what we do in our regular jobs, I’ll share a little bit here. I work for a small advertising creative firm. There are 3 of us. I manage the traffic of all of our ads and projects. I also do the social media for a couple of clients as well as all the accounts payable and receivables and answer the phones. Although our phone rings like 3 times a day. Thank you technology for making that such a small part of my job. I work 4 days a week and it’s 3 miles from my house. I use my lunch hour many times to run errands or even make a quick trip to the grocery store and then get my groceries home and back to work in time. There are many intangible awesome things about my job and it’s a fantastic job to land after being a SAHM for 12 years. It’s a casual place, I typically wear jeans and a t-shirt.
Funny part of my job – see that alarm picture up there – there’s an alarm set for 10:30 AM… that’s because I work in a mostly residential city that provides very little parking for businesses and we all have to park in spots that have a two hour time limit. So, at 10:30 every day, I have to go move my car. I also move it at lunch and one more time in the afternoon. At least it gets me up and taking a walk around the building for a few minutes. But, it’s a beautiful place – here’s a view from a lunch time walk.
On Fridays – my day is a little different. I do still get up at 5:00 and get in my workout if it’s going to be a busy day. Otherwise I try to fit in a run after the kids get off to school. The rest of the days on Fridays lately have been filled with volunteer stuff at Dude’s school. Hopefully that’ll settle down as time goes on.
On the weekends, I try to sleep until 6:30ish (woo hoo – party!). Usually Saturdays I take a rest from working out and Sundays are a run day (although that sometimes changes based on my running friend’s schedule). And, I know I don’t get enough sleep during the week since most weekend days also include a nap. Oh, there’s sometimes a nap on Fridays too – but only now that the kids are back in school (okay, so that’s only been one Friday, but that 30 minute little snooze was awesome).
So – how many hours before you leave for work do you get up?
