2 Year Blogiversary with a big announcement
How do you celebrate a blogiversary? I think this amazing looking cake will do.
I started blogging two years ago. August 27, 2010 (follow that link to my first post). Two years later, I’ve published 612 posts (I guess I have a lot to say). My blog has chronicled my thoughts and opinions through several different phases in my life after taking charge of my health. And, now I’m embarking on a new phase. Keep reading – - I’ll get to it.
I started blogging because I had made some major changes in my life as far as taking care of my health. Honestly, I thought I knew a lot and I wanted to share that with people. Once I started blogging, I quickly learned that I didn’t know that much at all. I quickly learned that taking care of my health was an ongoing journey.
Before I started blogging, I would read everything I could about health, nutrition and fitness. Once I got involved with my blog, I continued to devour as much information as possible. During that time, I also began exploring options for going back to work after being a stay-at-home mom for 10 years (at that point). I was passionate about nutrition and health and made the decision to go back to school to become a Dietitian.
I took one class that first semester to test the waters and see how the balance of school and family priorities would work out. It seemed to be easy. I then tackled 2 more semesters of classes and eventually got to the hard stuff. Now, that I have a better understanding of how the balance of my priorities is going and the timing of all of this, I have made the decision to not continue with the RD program and to go back to work in a traditional setting.
This decision didn’t come easy. But, for many reasons that don’t need to be public information, this is the best decision for me and my family.
When I was deciding what to do with my career two years ago, I couldn’t imagine going back to work in a traditional setting. Two years later, I’m actually looking forward to it. I have an education, an excellent one at that – my MBA is with an emphasis in Human Resources Management. My ideal job right now is being involved with corporate wellness programs. I can combine my passion for nutrition and health with a traditional job. I know it.
Dietitians are highly trained professionals. I admire each and every one of them for their knowledge and expertise. I’ve connected with many of them through my blog and have always been impressed. Please go see a Registered Dietitian for your nutritional needs.
Please continue to read my blog as a person who is passionate about nutrition and health and who hopes to lead by example while raising healthy kids and maintaining a healthy family.
I also look forward to being a role model for busy working moms who make the time to take care of themselves. That is the balance I’ve been blogging about for 2 years and will continue to do so. I look forward to sharing the journey with all of you.
How exciting! You must be just wiggling with anticipation. I wish you all the best in your new role and hope you will find lots of interesting challenges and worthy projects as you go along. I just know you will bring energy and commitment to your work. So happy for you. And cannot wait to learn more about what you are doing!

Now to find the perfect employer. Or the stepping stone to the perfect employer.
Congrats on the blogiversary! I do love my career, but it is such a huge time commitment with the mandatory unpaid internship after the classes. It’s always great to come to a decision you are happy with and it sounds like you’ve done that!

Thank you!
You’re so wise! You can absolutely combine both passions without a whole new degree. And now you won’t have to wonder “what if” because you tried it and learned it wasn’t for you. Congrats on making that decision. And congrats also on your two year blogiversary!

Hey Carrie! Long time no blog comment! For whatever reason your blog will not populate in my Google Reader so I swung by old school (coming direct) today. What a tough decision you have made. I’m sure it’s the best thing for your. Getting involved with corporate wellness is a dream of mine too! Good luck to you! I’ll be stopping by “manually” more often to check in with you. Take care.
I wonder if you unsubscribe and resubscribe with your Google reader if it would fix itself? I know there were issues when Google Friend Connect stopped as I’m not a Blogger blog. But, great to see you! Thanks for the encouraging words, too.
good for you for making the choice that’s right for you!!! good luck!

Jill @ Fitness, Health and Happiness recently posted..Cardio or Strength Training? What’s your Preference?
Thank you Jill, you made me smile today.
All that matters is that you’re doing what is right for you. Who cares about what others are doing.

I think it’s a great decision and HR will meld so perfectly with a focus on wellness initiatives.
I work a full time corporate job and while I love fitness and my side job teaching spin, right now I have no interest in making it a full time profession. This is what works for me.
Good luck!!

Thanks Jessica – I think I’ve realized that many people feel as you do, your passion and hobby can be separate from your corporate/professional life. I’m really looking forward to it all.
