Based on yesterday’s post, it seems like a majority of us use exercise as a mood lifter. Thanks for all the comments.
My long run friend had to work today, and I can’t meet her tomorrow, so that meant that I needed to do my 10 miler alone today. Before my friend started running, I used to run alone all the time. I’ve gotten a little spoiled by having a friend and I missed her today.
But, I got out there and got it done. The first miles were pretty slow – and overall it was pretty slow, but I did get faster as the miles wore on, so there’s that.
When I run with my friend, we do a 3:1 run walk. Today, I ran the whole time except for the what I thought was 3 walk breaks to have a Cliff Block and a drink. But, I guess I walked a few other short periods too – or maybe I didn’t stop my timer right at a light. Whatever.
I’m not sure I’m believing the elevation map. Although I was at the beach and just after mile 6 was when I went from the bike path back up to the street, so I guess it was pretty steep.
Just after mile 9 I hit a stoplight and had to stop. At first I was happy to have the break, but then I instantly realized that my legs were exhausted and stopping was probably not a great idea. Starting up again was tough. Stupid light.
A few more pictures from the run. It’s really amazing to start with the sun. I love seeing it peek over the houses.
And then to see the sun reflect on the houses on the hillside.
I always show you all pictures facing south when I hit the beach. Today I’m sharing the northern view. That’s Santa Monica back there behind the smog. At least the clouds looked neat.
If you could actually see through the smog – you’d see Malibu. Maybe that’s why I never take pictures this direction, it’s hardly ever clear.
So, the pretty southern view again.
My turnaround point was right on the Redondo Pier. Lots of people fishing at that time of day. And, then there was a huge pelican – right in my way. Random.
Heading back home – there’s some beach clean up work going on. Nice to see.
I made it. 10 miles!
And, of course I had some pancakes. These are made with oats, whole wheat flour, almond butter and some Chobani Champions. I’ve decided I’m becoming a kitchen sink pancake maker. Of course there are blueberries and chocolate chips inside, too.
I’ve got 3 weeks until half-marathon #4. Long Beach – - anyone else going to be there? And then 3 weeks after that is the LA RnR… is that one on anyone’s schedule?
GREAT long run!! I too hate stopping near the end of long runs. It’s soooo hard to get going again! I love all of your pictures-beautiful! Jan recently posted..Half Marathon Emotions
Nice job getting it done on your own! That pelican is kind of cute. And now I’m craving pancakes!! Laura @ Mommy Run Fast recently posted..Core strength: Can we skip the crunches?

Great job on the 10 miler! I hate it when I have to stop! It is so hard to get going again! That’s why I usually do better during races, because there are no stops (well, except for maybe a potty break, but I try to get it out of the way early)! Travel Spot recently posted..The Old Ball Game

Thank you. The scenery does help the miles go by faster.
